Tanzania Institute of Accountancy (TIA) is one of the pre-eminent Public academic Institutes in Tanzania, under the Ministry of Finance and Planning, which is mandated to provide education and conduct research and consultancy services in the areas of Accountancy, Procurement and Logistics Management, and other business related academic fields.
The Institute was established on 1st July 2002 in accordance with the Executive Agencies Act. Cap 245, to take over the operations of the then Dar es Salaam School of Accountancy (DSA).
This came as a result of Public Service Reforms Programme. DSA was established in January 1973 as a Government Training Centre by a special decree of the then Minister for Finance.
Its initial objective was to conduct both short and long-term courses for Lower and Middle Level Government Accounting Personnel in order to improve work performance.
Over the years of its existence, DSA was transformed from a small government training centre offering short courses in Government Accounting to an Institute of higher learning offering Advanced Diploma Courses in Accountancy and Materials Management.
